X-Wing VS TIE Fighter

The scene right before Luke destroys the Death Star is among the most memorable ones in Star Wars films which is why I decided to build it within Minecraft. It seemed like a great thing to do shortly after the construction of Darth Vader´s mask.

I have started of by building a TIE Fighter.  After finding a few photos I looked at a few  scales of the machine. I decided to make it  much bigger than what I originally planed  which is how it ends up with most of my  projects. It wasn´t to difficult to build it as I  only had to make a sphere and two angled  hexagons with a connection between them.  The dimensions and proportions came from  the pictures. Dart Vader´s TIE Fighter was  the next thing on the list which was quite  similar to the previous ones. The last and the  most difficult thing to build was the X-Wing. I  had to  do a lot of experimenting, altering and  adjusting to make it look just the way I  wanted. It was also a very interesting thing for me to build.

I am quite satisfied with the outcome of the project and the fact that it was a good preparation for bigger things. Unfortunately rapidshare has screwed me over with this project as I uploaded it to the service and it was deleted in a few months or so. This caused me to lose this map that I very much liked. Hopefully I can still somehow find it but I don´t have much hope.

Darth Vader

The mask of Darth Vader was the first large structure I built in Minecraft with a specific theme and design. Up to that point I have played survival mode building the usual things like houses, caves, forts and mostly castles. After running out of ideas and the will to mine all the materials I have abandoned the game for about three months.

In that period of time I have watched the Star  Wars trilogy. Being born near the end of 20th  century I haven´t experienced these films before and I was impressed by them to say the least. While watching them a certain character stood out to me and gave me an  idea. I wanted to recreate his mask within Minecraft and show it to my friends. I decided to put the mask on a white platform to contrast its color and to separate it from the  background. This took a fair bit of time because I did everything manually during the making of this project. Then I looked for  photos from two vertical plains one from the  front an the other one from the top. I resized  them so that i could compare the two sides. I started by building two ellipses and a sphere around them to get the basic head shape. Then I added the neck followed by the helmet nose and eyes.

When I finished the project I showed it to my friends and decided to upload it to Youtube for easier viewing. This project gave me other ideas that I realized in the future. Later on I had to replace the audio because the copyright claims restricted the video from certain countries.
